Call Me MiSTER Scholarship

The Call Me MiSTER® (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) scholarship program is dedicated to increasing the number of teachers in elementary and secondary schools. Targeting students who aspire to become educators, particularly those from underserved communities, the program offers financial assistance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Participants receive tuition support, academic resources, and personal guidance to foster leadership skills and community engagement. Call Me MiSTER® scholars commit to serving as positive role models and advocates for educational equity, ultimately transforming classrooms and impacting young lives.

Award Opportunities
Scholarship awards are merit based.

Eligibility
• Be a U.S. citizen
• Have a weighted and unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale)
• Have been accepted for admission or currently attending SC State University
• Demonstrated leadership and community service
• Submitted FAFSA to SC State University; Use code 003346
• Submit an official transcript
• Submit test scores of a minimum of 21 ACT and/or 1080 SAT

You must have declared interest in one of the following majors:
• Art Education
• Biology Education
• Chemistry Education
• Early Childhood Education
• Elementary Education
• English Education
• Mathematics Education
• Middle-Level Education
• Music Education
• Social Studies Education
• Special Education

Restrictions
•Scholarship funds may not be applied toward fines for student violations, parking permits, or any traffic-related expenses.

Award
Annual scholarships: up to $5,000 (including stipend) and are merit based. Qualified applicants also have access to internships across South Carolina.

  8. Submit an essay entitled, "Why I Want to Teach," which will address the student's motivation for entering the teaching profession and the contributions he hopes to make to the profession and to the community as a teacher.
  9. Submit an essay entitled "How do you believe the Call Me MiSTER program will benefit you as a student?"
  10. Provide a signed statement certifying that student is from an underserved, underprivileged or economically disadvantaged background or area:

Following the submission of these items, an interview will be scheduled with the prospective program participants to ascertain their potential for teaching and their motivations for participation in the program, as well as to provide an opportunity for clarification of any submitted through the application process.
